Austrian Sawn Soft Timber from Adriatic Ports

We have received the following information from our correspondents in Hodeidah, Yemen:

Shipments of Austrian sawn soft timber from Koper and Rijeka ports have been received in damaged condition including:

• Black fungal staining
• Whitish/greyish fungal growth
• High moisture content

It is believed that the problems arise from pre-loading conditions rather than conditions of carriage.

The timber is described as "0/111 grade" and is used mainly in the construction industry.

Drawing samples prior to loading is recommended together with clausing of documents in the event of any inadequacies in cargo condition. Masters faced with any problems should contact the Club’s local correspondents or the Managers for assistance.
