(External) California - New Low-Sulphur Fuel Regulation
From 1 January 2009 vessels operating within 24 nautical miles of the California coast will be required to use marine diesel oil with 0.5% sulphur or less . On 1 January 2012, the level will be reduced to 0.1%.

Recent PSC inspections at US ports have revealed that at least 30% of vessels are not complying with hydrostatic testing requirements for bunker lines. Non-compliance can result in fines and bunkering operations can be stopped.
