Argentina - Falkland Islands/Islas Malvinas
March 2010
Effective 17 February 2010, following the publication of decree 256/2010 in the Official Bulletin of Argentina, any vessel trading between the Argentine mainland and Islas Malvinas/Falkland Islands, or even in transit through Argentine jurisdictional waters to the Islas Malvinas/Falkland Islands, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, must obtain prior authorization from the competent Argentine Authorities. (Full details and regulations are anticipated in due course.) A free translation of the decree supplied by Pandi Liquidadores S.R.L. can be downloaded below.
It has recently been reported that a vessel which arrived in Argentina from Puerto Argentino /Port Stanley was not permitted to go ahead with loading nor to take bunkers within jurisdictional waters as she was banned by the Argentine Authorities. Furthermore, she was subjected to a very thorough PSC inspection which delayed her sailing from Argentina.
With thanks to Pandi Liquidadores S.R.L. for supplying this information.
